Join us this Spring to find out how to create an organic summer food garden.

We were planning a series of 90-minute workshops to start on Saturday, 11 September and run for 6 weeks.  But as we’ve been and continue to be in a COVID Lockdown we feel all we can offer is it compressed into one weekend.  We reckon we’ll be in Alert Level 2 by Saturday and Sunday, 16 and 17 October, so these are the new dates. 

We’ll start at 9am at Jan’s garden in Henderson and finish at 3pm.  We’ve added an extra $5 a day for a light lunch to be included which takes the cost of the weekend to $130 per person.

The days will look like this:

Saturday, 16 October

9-10.30am          

WORKSHOP 1: Seed sowing, pricking out or transplanting, growing media, seed saving

10.30-11am

Morning tea

11am-12.30pm

WORKSHOP 2:  Hot composting, worm farms and Bokashi, fertilisers and additives (rock dust, lime), aerating soil, mulching, making garden beds, carbon, calcium, humates

12.30-1.30pm

Lunch

1.30-3pm

WORKSHOP 3:  Leafy greens, herbs, microgreens and sprouts, keeping up the supply

Sunday, 17 October

9-10.30am          

WORKSHOP 4: How to grow tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, chillis, capsicums, potatoes and kumara

10.30-11am

Morning tea

11am-12.30pm

WORKSHOP 5:  Companion planting, pests and diseases, organic herbicides and fungicides, flowers, green manure crops, bees

12.30-1.30pm

Lunch

1.30-3pm

WORKSHOP 6:  Planting and pruning pip and stone fruit, berries, nuts, subtropicals especially citrus
