- Paul Dickson, Chief Go-Getter at OKE Charity, plans to ‘build mighty kids’ by growing food in schools. He organises the annual Head2Head Walk, a 24-hour team relay round the Manukau Heads held in November. With the proceeds, he’s building gardens in South Auckland primary schools to start with, but his vision is to make sure every primary school in New Zealand has one. Find out more information about OKE Charity and Paul here.
- Papatoetoe East School had their garden built a year ago. Today we’re at Weymouth School where their gardens are being built. Saane Faaofo-Olderhaver, the principal, and Melissa Atama, a school board member, trained primary school teacher, mother of four and consultant for community empowerment and facilitation, are the driving force behind it. They want their gardens to be open to the community as part of their plan for the school to be the heart of their community.
- The volunteers were given some assistance in the morning by the Warriors – and not just a few of the guys – the entire team! www.warriors.kiwi
- Organic Edible Garden aims to share our knowledge with Weymouth School and help them grow the food. We’ll keep you up-to-date with their progress.
