Turnips recipe 2

BACON CLAPSHOT

This is a traditional Scottish dish.

600g potatoes (Agria is good), peeled and quartered
300g turnips, peeled and cut into chunks
20 grams butter
1 tablespoon milk or cream
8 strips steaky bacon, cooked well and crumbled
½ teaspoon salt
1 pinch ground nutmeg
ground black pepper
chives, chopped

Place the potatoes and turnips in a large saucepan with salt, cover with water and bring to a boil. Cook until tender – about 20 minutes.
Drain the potatoes and turnips well and mash until creamy. Add the butter and milk and beat until fluffy. Season with nutmeg and pepper.
Decorate with bacon and chives.
