‘Pests in my berry patch’

Full question:

Hi, just wondering if you know of any organic solutions for dealing with fruit fly that lay eggs on ripening fruit of raspberries, boysenberries, blackberries. They’re ruining my crop and they lay just as the fruit ripens then a caterpillar starts eating the fruit. I thought I might try pyrethrum spray have also tried neem oil but didn’t seem to do much.

Our response:

We recommend Aquaticus Glow. The only thing is that it is a fish-based product, so if you’re spraying it on ripening berries there’s every chance the fruit will taste like seafood!
The best thing is to grow an insectary nearby your berry patch to attract beneficial insects which will hopefully deal to these creatures.
It may be too late for this summer, but certainly try it for next year.
Let us know how you get on. 🙂
