‘My 4 year old keffir lime tree is dropping all its leaves… Any ideas what is causing the leaf fall?’

Here’s the full question:

My 4 year old keffir lime tree is dropping all its leaves. This has happened just in the last couple of weeks. We fed it citrus slow release fertiliser and spread sheep pellets around the drip line prior to the leaf fall. Any ideas what is causing the leaf fall?

Our response:

We think it will just be the wind. The leaves on Rob’s keffir lime have dropped off too in the last couple of weeks due to the wind we’ve had. There’s nothing to worry about – they’ll come back. Keffir lime is more subtropical and less hardy than citrus like lemons, so will always need to be planted in the most sheltered spot in your garden.
